You also have the option to mix and match different types of brick materials with various widths, shapes and colors for a truly unique look that is all your own. That’s because brick paving has an almost unlimited number of styles, including bricks set in a herringbone pattern, which is a great design for corners and tight spaces.

Installing patio bricks:

Before you begin installing your brick patio, it’s important to have all the necessary equipment on hand – including materials, tools and safety gear – so you won’t have to go out and buy anything later.

Step One – Prepare the Site for Installation:

Where your patio is located can determine which type of brick you choose, so it’s important to know exactly where your patio will be because there are certain types of bricks that work better in specific areas. For instance, porous bricks work best in warm, dry climates while dense bricks are more durable and stand up better to cold and wet conditions.

The next step is making sure you have the proper equipment on hand before beginning your brick installation. The necessary equipment for a masonry project can vary depending on the size of your patio, but it’s important to make sure you have the necessary tools to do the job right.

Step Two – Prepare the Subbase for Your Patio:

The sub base is a layer of compacted gravel or crushed stone that is beneath your patio bricks and serves as a support foundation. Before you begin laying down bricks, it’s important to make sure that your subbase is solid and stable.

Once you’ve completed these first two steps, it’s time to start laying down your bricks. Thankfully, brick paving can be done in a variety of ways. You can even mix different types of brick with thicknesses ranging from 3/4″ up to 2″ thick.

Step Three – Lay the Bricks:

Once you have your subbase ready, it’s time to begin laying your bricks. One of the most popular ways to lay brick is in a herringbone pattern, which can be used to create the illusion of dimensionality and an organic flow that brings character and style to any outdoor living space.

Step Four – Cleaning and Sealing Your Patio:

Make sure you clean the bricks first before applying the sealant. You can use a pressure washer or a brush and some soapy water. Once the bricks are clean, apply the sealant using a brush or a spray bottle. Be sure to coat all of the bricks evenly. Let the sealant dry completely before using your patio.

Once this is done, allow your bricks to air dry before applying a layer of sealant that acts as an invisible protective coating against water penetration. This will help deter damage caused by harsh weather conditions like rain and snow in addition to protecting the surface from excessive wear and tear.

You’ve completed your project and now it’s time to enjoy your beautiful new brick patio!
